Passion Play to host movie shoot

EUREKA SPRINGS—The Great Passion Play will be the scene for a new movie to be
filmed there in October, according to John McAteer, Director of Marketing and
Sales. Carman, who recently headlined the Gospel Music Celebration at the
Passion Play, has been signed to star in the film, Book of Ruth, based on the
Biblical story. Starring with Carman will be Sherry Morris, who also sang at the
Gospel Music Celebration.
In fact, Carman and Morris stayed after the Sunday evening concert to sign
contracts for the movie while they were in town.
Carman will portray Boaz and Morris will portray Ruth in the upcoming film, an
adaptation of the Book of Ruth from the Bible. The adaptation written by Richard
Raucci depicts “powerful themes of tolerance and acceptance gained through love
and understanding,” according to an internet review at
www.imdb.com.
Ray Nikolaison of Reel Frog Productions and Crossing the King’s Highway LLC will
produce the film with executive producer Roy J. Hunter, Jr. Stephen Patrick
Walker has been signed to direct the movie.
Filming has been set to begin October 17 and will run through the end of the
month. The film is expected to be released to theaters in early April 2008 and
on DVD soon thereafter. Producers are also in negotiations for possible
scheduling on TBN.
While negotiations are ongoing for some actors, several others of note have been
signed to appear in the movie, including Dick Van Patten, James Van Patten, Dan
Haggerty, D. J. Perry, Gretchen Becker, and Lana Wood (sister of Natalie Wood).
Cathy Hansen, Vice President of Finance for Crossing the King’s Highway LLC,
said 100% of Executive Producer Roy J. Hunter, Jr.’s profits from the movie will
be committed to church planting in the United States and abroad, through several
different entities. -
